How portfolio rebalancing works
Rebalancing means trimming holdings that have grown above their target weight and topping up those that have fallen below, so your risk stays where you intended. This calculator multiplies your target weights by your total portfolio value (including any new cash) to get each holding's target dollar amount, then shows the buy or sell needed to get there. Turning off selling rebalances with new contributions only - directing your fresh cash to the most underweight holdings - which avoids realizing capital gains.
